Betty Daugherty Milstead, 82, a native of McIntosh and longtime resident of Jackson, passed away July 30, 2016 at Mobile Infirmary. She was born July 23, 1934 to Hiram and Nona Daugherty. A member of the First United Methodist Church of Jackson, she served several times as president of the United Methodist Women and was also involved on the district level of UMW. She was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club, the Jackson Woman’s Club and the Daughters of the Confederacy, and was retired from Olin in McIntosh where she has worked for more than 30 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Angela Milstead; two sisters, Helen (Tut) Touchstone, Ruth (Frib) Everett; three brothers, Elwood (JoDell) Daugherty, Marvin (Ruby) Daugherty and Carrol (Melva Jean) Daugherty. Survivors include her husband, Vivian Gray Milstead of Jackson; son, Ashley Gray Milstead of Jackson; sisters, Velma Patrick of McIntosh, Dr. Bonnie McKee of College Station, TX, Bernice (Sam) Rocray of Boston, Mass; brother, Gerold (Faye) Daugherty of Abbeville and Auburn and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 2, 2016 at Jackson United Methodist Church with the Revs. Alan Gantzhorn and Mark Dunn officiating. Music will be presented by Brian Jemison. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers will be David Gill, Darren Gill, Jeff Padgett, Hiram McGee, Charles Pezent and Van Daugherty. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Jackson Volunteer Fire Department and the retired friends who gather for coffee and conversation at Mac’s Drugs.
