Malcolm David Dennis, 76, of Irmo died Monday, December 26, 2022, at his home surrounded by family.
Born on October 29, 1946, in Decatur, Indiana. He was the son of the late Nina Wilson and Hardy Dennis.
One of his greatest achievements was serving his country. He was a Vietnam Veteran and proudly served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Coral Sea - CVA 43 from 1965-1971, where he earned numerous commendations, including the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Letter of Commendation from the Commanding Officer. He truly appreciated the brotherhood that came along with his service and shared many of the great memories with those he loved.
He was a proud man who loved his family and looked forward to spoiling his grandchildren. Before being diagnosed with Parkinson’s, he owned his own company, Dennis Sales and Marketing, where he sold industrial machinery throughout the Southeast. He enjoyed traveling with his job and coming home to busy weekends with his family.
He was deeply involved in his children’s lives. He coached soccer, basketball, baseball, and enjoyed the family basketball games in the driveway. He loved catching up with his daughter, Breanna, at Sonny’s BBQ while traveling through her college town; playing church league basketball with his son, Jonathan; tinkering with Courtney; talking sports with Malcolm.
His wife, Sherry, was the love of his life and they built a beautiful family together. She was his partner in life and a great wife and caregiver for his last years. The care she provided kept him with us and provided the family with lots of loving memories that will forever be cherished.
He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sherry Dennis; children, Malcolm D. Dennis Jr. (Laura) of Leeds, AL, Courtney W. Dennis (Kimberly) of Irmo, S.C., Breanna M. Herndon (Clay) of Chapin, S.C., and Jonathan "JD" H. Dennis of Irmo, S.C.; grandchildren, Carlton Smith, Carter Herndon, Brynn Herndon, Jackson Dennis, Aubrey Dennis, Hayden Dennis, and Luke Dennis; siblings, Jerry Dennis of Ocala, FL , Murphy Dennis of Brush Prairie, WA, Cynthia Blanton of Inverness, FL, and Mark Dennis of Rainsville, AL.
There will be a visitation from 9 until 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo. Burial will be private in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Amedysis Hospice, Leeza Care Center and Stephon for their love and compassion during his battle with Parkinson’s.
