Memorial service for Gerald “Dwight” Wilson, 72, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2016 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Carroll Richardson and Burley Joe Richardson. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. Dwight passed away Friday, June 17, 2016. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late Jesse and Emily Richardson Wilson. He was a devout Christian and attended Cane Branch Baptist Church, Conway. Dwight retired from the US Navy following 22 years of service where he served two tours in Vietnam. He had tremendous love for his family and taught them how to live non-judgmental. Surviving is his wife of 10 years, Betsy Long Wilson; son and daughter-in-law, Daniel J. “Monk” and Kirsten Shumpert; his precious grandbabies, Tyler James and McKenzi Elizabeth Kae Shumpert, all of Conway, SC; daughter, Megan E. Shumpert of Gilbert, SC. He is also survived by siblings, Doug Wilson (Sheila), Faye Hammett (late, J.D.), Sharon Bouknight (Doug), Marie Derrick (Kenny), Michael Wilson (Debbie); Special Aunt Thelma Richardson Farr; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins all of whom held a special place in his heart.
