She was born June 18, 1928 in Pomaria, SC to Dewey Wofford Adams and Pauline Gilliam Adams. Dorothy was devoted to her faith, family, friends and her USC Gamecocks. She was dearly loved by all who knew her. She was known for being a wonderful cook, having a quick wit and willingness to open her door to family and friends when in need.
While attending business school in Columbia she met her husband, a football player for the USC Gamecocks. Gene and Dot celebrated 53 years of marriage together. She always said she lived a wonderful life having a beautiful family, spending time with many lifelong friends, tailgating at Carolina football games, playing golf, attending the Masters, traveling the world, trips to the beach and just enjoying life to the fullest. One of her favorite things was to have a nightly cocktail...gin on the rocks with a twist!
Upon the birth of her grandson, Troy, she became known affectionately as “GranDot” to everyone. She loved attending baseball games to watch Troy play from little league through college. And she enjoyed watching the Lady Gamecocks play basketball. Many times you could find her working in the yard as she loved gardening. Roses and tomatoes were her favorite! GranDot celebrated her 96th birthday June 18th.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene and survived by her son, Philip D. Herterick (Karey); grandson, Troy D. Herterick (Hailee), and relatives, Annette Berley, Alicia Berley Holbrook (Eric), Kristen Berley LaCons (Chris), Andy Berley, Marilyn Berley Skolds (Jack), Diane Gilliam, Brian Shelley, Gina Lester, April Storey Brown and Janice Long. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Dewey and Pauline Adams.
Dot was a wonderful wife, mother and friend. Her kind and loving spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
