COLUMBIA – Mr. Bruce Allen Thompson was born on September 3, 1957, in Columbia SC. He was the son of the late John E. Thompson and Ruby G. Thompson. He departed on Monday, July 15, 2024, at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.
Bruce was affectionately known as “T-Man”. T-Man attended and received his diploma from Irmo High School in 1977. After graduation he started employment with the City of Columbia where he retired. After retirement and a brief break, T-Man opted to work for Richland County School District One at St. Andrews Middle School.
He was a man of few words who enjoyed shooting pool, fishing, watching football and spending time with family and friends. He later found a passion for landscaping. He was also a great basketball player at Irmo High School.
He was preceded in death by his late father, John Edward Thompson; nephew, Murillo “Boochie” Thompson; and niece, Valerie Gandy.
Bruce leaves to cherish his precious memories, his spouse, Trudy; three children, Bruce Emanuel Thompson, Celleeta (Tony) Gillard, and Fredrick Allen Thompson; his mother, Ruby G. Thompson; one brother, James Edward Thompson; six sisters, Loretta (Harvey) Gandy, Gloria (Leon) Eargle, Ruby (David) Hall, Phyllis (Rodney) Mills, Angela Scipio, and Janice Thompson; four stepchildren, Tony Brown, Ikeetha Brown, Carmella Brown, and Shakendra Harper; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
