To the McCathern Family, my father, Dr.Howard Gilchrist, who practiced dentistry in Williston, SC, and our family had the privilege of ‘dining’ with Dr. McCathern every Saturday when he and my father took lunch time from their Saturday dental duties to have lunch at our home on Green Drive. My Mother would serve her famous speghetti sauce midday meal. We children never tired of that dish and Dr. McCathern appeared to enjoy it too! He and Leona were such good friends to our parents. And I fondly recall Dr. Mac’s impromptu lovely tribute words at our father at his funeral in August, 2012. Rest in Peace. I enjoyed working with him for many years.
I remember during my interview he asked me if I knew how to fill out a bird dog field trial application.
I had no idea what that was, he just smiled and said , "you'll learn".
I pray God holds each  of you. Cherish all of the memories that come rushing back.
He leaves behind a great legacy. He lead by example.
An always humble, Godly man.

Billy Mac was truly one of the greatest men I’ve ever met, from Gatorade after practice to making me feel like I was part of the family.  Im so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear about Dr McCathern’s passing.  I have such fond memories of working for him during my hygiene internship and later working for him as an assistant until I received my RDH license!   I still tell the story about how bad I was as an assistant!  My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

So very sorry to hear of  Dr Billy Macs passing.  He was my friend as well as my dentist for many years. My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time.

We had the pleasure and blessing of knowing Billy Mac and family for the last 35 + years. He not only was our dentist, but our friend. From fun filled days at the lake house, to late nights watching the Yellow Jackets and several family additions in between, we  watched the McCathern/Cunningham/Sizer family flourish all because of their patriarch,  Billy Mac. He was vivacious in life and a true Godly man. Someone we wanted to be like. We will cherish our shared memories forever. He will surely be missed lots. I know Gary was excited to welcome him into the gates of Heaven. Much love and prayers from our family to yours. Love The Heady's, Dowlings, and Lewter's!

There aren’t words to express my sadness today when I heard about Dr. McCathern. My heart is broken as he was more than my boss for all those years. He was my second Dad and I loved him and you all more than you know. So many memories flooded back today from hiding his bird dog magazine ( so he’d work) to our trip to Hawaii!! May  precious memories bring a peace to your hearts and smiles to your faces in the days to come. Love and hugs sent to you all.
