Columbia -A Mass of Christian Burial for Alan Hume Shaw, 72, will be celebrated on Monday, January 26, 11:00 AM, at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 9:30 AM with visitation following at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Hills. Final Commendation and full military honors to be held at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church Cemetery in Chapin, SC.
Mr. Shaw died January 21, 2015 peacefully in his home, after a lengthy illness. Born in Indianapolis, IN on December 9, 1942, he was the son of the late Arthur Joseph Shaw and Edith Virginia Clark. He was a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Omaha with a Bachelor of General Studies in 1971 and the University of Southern California, M.S. Ed. in 1973.
He enlisted in the Army in May 1962. He served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. After serving 22 years in uniform, he retired in June 1984 as a Field Artillery Major. He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, 1976. Following his retirement from the Army, he was a stock broker with AG Edwards & Sons from 1984 to 2008.
He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Throughout his life, Mr. Shaw pursued a passionate interest in, appreciation for, and knowledge of foreign sports cars. Surviving are his wife, Kathleen; sons, Jeffrey Alan Hume Shaw (Debra) of Valrico, FL., Kenneth Drake Arredondo (Karen) of Winter Park, FL.; daughter, Kristen Aileen Danikolas (Chris) of Crown Point, IN.; sister, Dale Bethel (Chuck), and several grandchildren. He was predeceased in death by his mother, Virginia Clark; father, Arthur Shaw, and sister, Diane Lumberry.
