Mr. Reed was born in Electra, TX on August 11, 1942. He graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1960. Shortly after joining the US Army Reserve in March of 1964, Jerry married Vickie on September 7, 1965. They celebrated 51 years of marriage together this past fall. He was a loyal employee to Southwestern Bell Telephone Company for 30 years, where he retired in 1991. During his time there he met some of his closest friends who he cherished dearly. He also served on the Wichita - Wilbarger 911 board of directors for many years. Mr. Reed was a member of Faith Baptist Church of Iowa Park and he faithfully served his Lord and Savior there in many capacities. His heart belonged to the city of Iowa Park where he was a dedicated school board member from 1986-1992 and was the board president from 1989-1992. Mr. Reed volunteered his time to his beloved Hawks for 18 years. He was also on the Iowa Park District Citizens Committee that assisted in the development of the new sporting complex today. Sports were beyond a hobby for him and he taught his daughters many life lessons through the game of basketball. Better known as Pepaw, he was a punctual grandfather that played a big role in his grandchildren’s lives. Many others in the town knew him from his red truck that could be seen parked at schools and basketball gyms alike. The family would like to express appreciation to Hospice and Joseph Roth with First Texas Home Health, a dedicated aide who cared for him in his last days. All of the staff at Royal Estates will always be in our hearts with thoughts of gratitude. The visitation will be held Sunday, May 7th, 2017 from 5-7pm at Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park, TX.
