It is with sadness we announce the death of our brother, William Daniel "Billy" MacDonald, age 77, resident of Inverary Manor, Inverness, and previously of Mabou, who passed away peacefully in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on Thursday, June 16, , 2022.
Born on October 25, 1944, he was the first of twelve children born to Dannie and Tena (MacLean) MacDonald of Mabou Mines. Billy was very proud of his Scottish roots and spoke with pride and sincerity of its culture and traditions. He was proud and forever loyal to his birthplace. In his early years, he worked closely with his father and spent many happy days farming and lumbering in MacDonald’s Glen. As an adult, he worked in trucking, mining, fishing out of Finlay’s Point, to the Boston States with his cousin Malkie; and onto many construction sites in Point Tupper, Halifax, and Western Canada. He had a passion for fiddle music, Gaelic songs, and storytelling. The Gaelic language was a large part of his life and he understood it well and respected each and every word that was spoken. His stories of the people and the communities where they lived were accurate and real. He listened well and respected what the folks of previous generations had shared. Billy is survived by his siblings, Anne Chisholm (Donald), Antigonish; Kate Beaton, Little Judique; Donalda Beaton (Francis), South West Mabou; Josephine Beaton (David) Brook Village; Roddie (Mary), South West Margaree; Sally, Inverness; Michael and Stephen, Mabou; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; his brothers, Angus, Gerard and Angus Donald; his brother-in-law, Burke; and his nephew Aaron. He will be dearly missed by his friends and neighbours. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held in St. Mary’s Parish Vestry, Mabou on Monday, June 20th from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Mary’s Church, Mabou on Tuesday, June 21st, 2022 at 11 am. With Fr. Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. Donations may be made to St. Mary’s Parish Cemetery Fund, St. Mary’s Parish Building Fund, Inverary Manor, or a charity of your choice. A most sincere thank you to all health professionals, especially Dr. McLachlan and caregivers at ICMH and Inverary Manor for care to Billy over the past number of years.
