John James "Johnny" O’Brien, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Thursday, February 11, 2010, in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital.
Born in Mabou on October 11, 1918, he was a son of the late Patrick and Jessie (Basker) O'Brien.
Johnny loved to spend time with his family and friends. He also enjoyed to party with the best of them. He will be missed by his family and friends and all who came to know him. John is survived by wife, Mary Agnes MacIsaac; sons, Francis, Halifax; Melvin (Annabelle), James, Inverness; daughters; Mary Theresa (Bruce) Smith, Orangedale; Beverly (Beau) Elkins, Baddeck; Patricia (Jimmy), MacIsaac, Barbara (Charlie), LeFort, Inverness. He is also survived by brother, Christopher, Mabou, and sister, Theresa, Ontario; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sons, Willard, James and John Patrick; brothers, Francis, Alex Angus and Wilson.
Visitation will be held in the vestry of St. Mary's Church, Mabou on Sunday, February 14, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, February 15, at 11:00 a.m. from St. Mary's Church, Mabou with Fr. Angus Morris officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital or to St. Mary's Parish cemetery Fund, Mabou.
