It is with profound sadness we announce the sudden passing in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, of our dearly loved husband, dad, papa, brother, uncle and friend, Donald Joseph "Donnie" MacIsaac on November 14th, 2021. He now joins his beloved son, Sandy, who passed away on May 5, 1986.
Born in Inverness, Donnie was a son of the late Alex John and Mary Catherine (MacDonald) MacIsaac. He was a member of St Margaret of Scotland Roman Catholic Church, Broad Cove.
Donnie worked at Evan's Coal Mine for 20 plus years as a Stationary Engineer who made sure the miners were transported underground and returned to the surface safely. A soft spoken man but always the one others relied on for a story and local history. Donnie was a long-time Nova Scotia based horseman, who raced primarily in Inverness but did race horses throughout the Maritimes with his favorite horse being All Star Rollon. Dad attended every race he could, only missing a few this past season. Dad thoroughly enjoyed the fine art of Scottish Music and was a dedicated listener to David Gillis' sunday evening fiddle music show on the radio. Dad always had time to enjoy a good cup of tea even if was just half a cup.
Donnie is survived by his loving family, wife of 58 years, Christine "Tootsie"; children, Donna (Pat), Campbell, Ann Marie (Lyle), Myrna (Paul), Carolyn (Herb); grandchildren, Nicholas, Brianna, Ben, Angus, Bridget, Sean, Callum and Liam; siblings, Effie (Jimmy, deceased), John Dan (Sandra), Archie (Joan), Anne (Albert), and Francis (Lois). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
Besides his parents and son, Sandy, Donnie was predeceased by his brothers, Alexander and James Malcolm in infancy.
