Born in Inverness, Christine was the daughter of the late Neil and Jessie Gillis, Deepdale.

Tompkins, Ann (Gordie) O’Connor, Margie (John) MacIsaac, Barbara (Angus d.) Gillis; brothers P.A. (Georgie) and Blaise; sisters-in-law Mary MacLellan and Brandi Gillis; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Christine was predeceased by her husband Johnny; brothers John and Alex; sisters-in-law Marjorie and Elizabeth; brothers-in-law Freddie, Jerome, Alexander, Malcolm, Gregory, Eugene, Harold, and Leonard.
Chris grew up in Deepdale and lived all her adult life in Inverness. She and Johnny raised their four children in town. Chris was a dedicated community volunteer. She worked at many locations in Inverness but will be best remembered for her years at Freeman’s Pharmacy.
Mom lived her life to the fullest and took much pleasure in visits and tea with family and friends and would never refuse a good game of cards. Nanny Chris made sure that you didn’t leave without one of her specialties: biscuits, waffles, her legendary chocolate chip cookies, or a piece of fudge. Sunday and holiday dinners were always made with love and kindness and were generously served.
Christine enjoyed music, dancing, a good story, and especially a Sunday afternoon on the grandstand at the Inverness Raceway. She loved to read the paper, do puzzles, knit, and sew. The quilts that Mom/Nanny made for us will be a reminder of her warm hugs and her love for her family.
Despite cognitive decline and some decrease in mobility in her later years, she lived every day of her life to the fullest with a smile on her face and a spring in her step. For the past seven years, Chris enjoyed living at the Manor thanks to the amazing care and attention she received from all of the staff. We are extremely grateful for every day of her life and will miss her enormously. She made our world a better place and she will live forever in our hearts.
