The passing of our dear father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and husband occurred in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital, Saturday October 12th 2019.
Frankie was born May 3, 1944 to Alexander and Rita (Gillis) Smith, both predeceased.
Frankie worked as a lithographer in Toronto prior to returning to his roots in Cape Breton. Frankie owned and operated a small family grocery store at Southwest Margaree for some years. He moved on to sales and management for Electrolux, before joining Scotsburn Dairy for 25 years until retirement. The final cap he wore was for Canada Post where he strived to fill the big shoes left by 'Joe the Mailman'. Frankie's hobbies included work, work, and work some more.
Frankie leaves to mourn his wife, Kathleen (MacDonnell); sons, Charles (Laurie), Sandy (Wendy), Robbie; and Frankie's special companion, his dog Jack; brother, Allen (Eileen); sisters, Marie (Pat), Aggie (James); his dear grandchildren Taylor and Devin; nieces, Trish Moran, Kim (Todd) DeMarco Meghan (Brett) Hershey, Laura (Michael) Illsley. Besides his parents he is predeceased by his brother AC; and his nephew Andrew Moran.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 10-10:45 a.m. in St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove. Funeral Mass to follow at 11a.m. with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
