Age 82, of Northeast Mabou, passed away with family by his side on Wednesday, August 17,
2022, in Sydney.
Born in Northeast Mabou on 14 June,1940, Richard was a son of the late Margaret and John
James MacInnis. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Leona; children, James (Heather),
Adele (Paul), Jennifer (Scott) and Ryan (Carmen); grandchildren, Carson (Laura), Emily,
Seamus (Danielle), Olivia, Hazel, Rowan, Calum and Angus; brothers, John (Audrey) and
Dougald (Sylvia); sister, Catherine (Collie); and his cherished extended family. He is
predeceased by his siblings, Annie Jane (Alexander), Jim (Dorothy), Marie (Len), Alec (Betty)
and Blase (Fern).
Richard was known by his family, friends and peers as many things: Captain of the C SHORE
MAC, fisherman, farmer, horse racing fanatic, Wii bowling champion, frequenter of the Red
Shoe Pub, and keeper of the Gaelic language. Most importantly, he was our beloved husband,
father and papa.
Our family would like to extend our sincere thanks to all of those who provided care to Richard
over the years, particularly Dr. Bennett and Dr. Robinson, as well as the staff at Inverness
Consolidated Memorial and Cape Breton Regional Hospitals.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday August 23 in St. Mary's Church, Mabou from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held in St. Mary's Church, Mabou at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday with Father Dan MacDonald officiating. Burial to follow in the parish cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Richard can be made to the Canadian
Cancer Society or St. Mary's Parish Cemetery, Mabou.
