It is with deep sadness we announce the death of Al (Alexander Hugh) Beaton which occurred in Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, December 15, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. Al was born in Little Judique on December 24, 1939 to Hugh and Sarah Anne (MacDougall) and following secondary education, he and his brother John joined his father in the very successful and respected business of Hugh Beaton and Sons located at Little Judique.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Maneight, his life partner and supporter with whom they shared so much love and devotion. Surviving also are his daughter, Lois (Danny) Beaton McNamara, Halifax; grandson, Hugh Alexander Beaton McNamara (Lauren Vassallo) Toronto; sister, Marie MacMaster; nieces, Carolyn MacDonald, Elaine (MacDonald) Collins, Sheila MacDonald, Mary Elizabeth (MacMaster) MacInnis; nephews, Melvin MacDonald, and Allan MacMaster.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, John Beaton; sister, Pauline and her husband Angus B. (Buddy) MacDonald; and her son, Mark MacDonald; brother-in-law, Buddy MacMaster.
He was a very proud grandfather to his grandson, Hugh Alexander. He always was happy to share a story about his grandson’s hard work, accomplishments and experiences in Toronto. He worked hard all his life, alongside his brother John in the family business for 54 years. He was always willing to help everyone. He didn’t just fix your vehicle, he cared about you and always made sure everything was perfect before you went back on the road. Always smiling, soft spoken and caring, Al will be remembered for his kindness and generosity toward others.
Al always enjoyed the horse races with his dear friends, John Donald (MacDonald), Kenny (Gillis), Duncan Francis (MacDonald), Lester Treholm, and the Campbell boys. In recent years he enjoyed sitting with Maneight and listening to Cape Breton tunes and the Black Watch Pipe Band.
He was very dedicated and proud of his Scottish heritage and enjoyed a cup of tea with his caring neighbours in Little Judique. We are forever grateful to Dad’s many friends and family who supported him, with a special thank you to Rose Marie and Grant Walsh, Belle and Stu DeCoste, Caddy MacDonald, Murial and Jerry Gillis, Kate Beaton, Billy and Carol MacDonald, Mary Anne MacDonald, Donald Mac Donald, Dougal MacDonald, Sid Mac Eachern and Angus Willie Smith.
The family wish to thank the staff at Inverary Manor, Freeman's Pharmacy and Inverness Consolidated Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place.
