William "Bill" Francis Fox, 87, passed away peacefully on July 6th 2022. Those who know Bill know he was the epitome of strength and grace. He was loved deeply by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Born in Indianapolis, Indiana on June 28, 1935, Bill attended grade school at St. Joan of Arc. He graduated from Cathedral High School in 1953 where he played football, baseball, and basketball. Bill received his Bachelor of Science degree at Purdue University in 1957, while at Purdue he was Lambda Chi Alpha.
After graduating from Purdue University, Bill got his first and only job working at Indiana National Bank in 1958. He worked there until he retired in 2002 as the Senior Vice President of Commercial Banking at JP Morgan Chase.
After retirement, Bill spent his time between Indianapolis, IN and Naples, FL. Naples became a special place to Bill where he met many of his close friends and enjoyed many days on the golf course at Olde Florida. He was an impeccable golfer, but an even better father, grandfather, and friend.
Over his lifetime, Bill was a part of many clubs and boards. He most notably received the Sagamore of the Wabash on January 22, 2002 from Governor Frank O’Bannon, was recognized as a Distinguished Hoosier by Governor Mitch Daniels on July 07, 2006, and on July 17, 2006 Mayor Bart Peterson named the day William F Fox Day.
He was also a Board Member of Metro Indianapolis YMCA, Board Director and Treasurer of Indiana Heart Association, Board Member and Treasurer of Community Adoration Services Agency, Board of Directors and President of Marion County Building Authority, Crooked Stick Board Member, Crooked Stick Club Champion and Two time Senior Club Champion, Board Member of First Tee of Indianapolis, Two time qualifier of USGA Senior Ameuter, Five time team member IGA/PGA Championship Challenge Cup, City County of Indianapolis recognition for 32 years of service with Indianapolis Marion County Building Authority 7/17/06, Member of Indiana State Senior Golf Association, Winner overall Gross 1977 at Indiana State Senior Golf Association, and a Member of St. Luke Catholic Church Indianapolis, IN and St. Anne’s Naples, FL.
Bill’s faith was always very important to him and we know he was welcomed into Heaven with open arms where he was greeted by his family and friends. His family cherishes the time they spent with him. His legacy on Earth will never be forgotten and his family will continue to honor him.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents William F Fox Junior and Alice MacManus, his brothers Fr. Peter D. Fox, SJ and Michael J. Fox, and sister Sheila Fox McCarthy, and many of his friends.
Bill is survived by his loving family, sons; William (Karen) Fox, James (Renee) Fox and Andrew (Lisa) Fox and grateful grandchildren, Margaret, Bridget, Lucas, Ava, Nicolas and Diego.
A visitation for Bill will be held Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 East 86th St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Friday, July 15, 2022 at 11:30 AM at St. Luke Catholic Church, 7575 Holliday Drive East, Indianapolis, Indiana 46260.
