It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Veronica Jean Elmore, who departed this life on Thursday, October 10, 2024, at the age of 70. Veronica was born on September 21, 1954, in Elkhart, Indiana, to her loving parents, Dorothy Suggs and Mack Suggs. She was the cherished sister of Shafer (Stephanie), Michael (Verlie), and the late Clinton Suggs. A beloved aunt to Ashley (Deonte’) Smith, Paxton (Rocio) Suggs, Jodi Suggs - Kirk, Faith (Shane) Southwell, Devyn Suggs, Dominique (Rico) Nettles, April (Jason) Collins, Madilyn Harris, Freddie Smoke, Chernyta Elmore, Iwandra (George) Santiago, Tia (Jermel) Parker, and Eugene Elmore.
Veronica is survived by her devoted husband of 39 years, Samuel Elmore, and her two children—son Samuel “Cory” Elmore and his wife Chelsea, and daughter Jessica Elmore. She leaves behind a lasting legacy through her adored grandchildren, Olivia and Elijah Elmore, who brought immense joy to her life. She was also deeply cherished by her brother-in-law Eugene and Kim Elmore, with whom she shared many joyful family trips.
A proud alum of Indiana University, Veronica was a member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. She went on to pursue her Master’s Degree in Education at Ball State University, a testament to her passion for learning and teaching. For over 30 years, Veronica made an indelible impact on her students as a dedicated educator in the Indianapolis Public Schools, nurturing countless young minds and inspiring them to reach their fullest potential.
Veronica had a deep love for her family and was happiest when surrounded by her grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She delighted in supporting them in all their endeavors—whether it was sports, performances, or academic achievements. Her love for the Indiana Pacers, Hoosiers, and Indianapolis Colts was well-known, as was her appreciation for live music. She found comfort in singing and cherished the opportunity to travel and see new places.
Veronica’s vibrant spirit, infectious smile, and unwavering devotion to her family and friends will forever be remembered. Her legacy of love, strength, and kindness lives on in all who were fortunate enough to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 3rd, from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM with a brief ceremony at 2:30 PM, with food to follow at Irvington Event Center, 6767 E Washington St, Indianapolis, IN 46219
