Tom was dedicated to family and friends. He made a career of making others happy and comfortable. Described as “one of the best bartenders ever, although not the fastest” Tom worked behind the bar at the McGinley’s Golden Ace, Battery Park Saloon and as hospitality manager at a number of suites at the Speedway and the RCA Dome. He also worked for many years in a variety of sales positions, as a concierge at Downtown hotels and St. Vincent’s Hospital, and enjoyed his time selling Tupperware, where he was known as “Tupperware Tommy”. Tom was also one of Santa’s leading helpers bringing smiles to children across the city for many years. Tom was a loving father, brother, grandfather, father-in-law, brother-in-law, uncle and loyal friend who always had a joke, a smile and an opinion. Tom was a member of St. Therese of the Little Flower Catholic Church, a proud graduate of Scecina Memorial High School and attended Indiana University. Tom was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret (Gerdon) Stephens. He is survived by his daughters, Kathleen (Harold) Ducote and Kimberly (Luis) Quispe; grandsons, Matthew and Lukas Quispe and Gus Ducote; sisters, Joanne (Michael) Board and Janet (Bill) McCully; nephew, Michael McCully; niece, Molly McCully; as well as many extended nieces and nephews who were much loved. The family would like to recognize the love and grace expressed by Tom’s fellow classmates of the Scecina Class of 1961, the St. Vincent’s Foundation and the care and support of St. Vincent’s Hospice Staff.
