Terrell Gene (Terry) Hudson Indianapolis, age 89, entered eternal life on May 25, 2023. He was born July 30, 1933 in Petersburg, IN to the late Violet M. (Kays) Hudson Taylor and Jesse Maphis Hudson. He married his college sweetheart Ruth Anne Justus Hudson on August 19, 1956. He was the proud father of Angela L. Moffatt (Donald R.) and Julia Anne Hudson (deceased). He found great joy and love from his three granddaughters, Jennifer L. Moffatt, Laura A. Tregoning (Justin) and Lindsey E. Moffatt and great grandchildren, Wyatt D., Piper Grace, Eden E. Tregoning, all of Lawrenceville, GA. He had one brother, Larry Thomas Hudson (deceased) of St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Petersburg High School in 1951 where he lettered in basketball, football and track. He continued his education at Hanover College graduating in 1955 with a B.S. in Education and Butler University in 1960 with a M.S. degree. He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Terry taught two years in Mt. Vernon, IN. In 1957, he began his service to his country in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany. His wife and 5-month-old daughter joined him. Upon their return to the states, he began his teaching and coaching career in the School District of Washington Township. He taught U.S. History and coached at Westlane Junior High School, then at North Central High School where he was teaching History and was Director of Intramurals. He went to Eastwood Junior High in 1975 as Assistant Principal. He returned to North Central High School to finish his career doing what he loved the most—teaching Government and coaching the girl’s golf team. During these 40 years he also taught evening school for Indianapolis Public Schools. Terry was an avid golfer and enjoyed teaching the game to young people. In his decades of teaching, he taught hundreds of students, sometime multiple generations of the same families. Many of his students went on to successful careers in medicine, science, college presidents, television and other professions. Terry delighted in meeting up with former students in the bank, post office or grocery and finding out about their lives. He was a long-time member of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Society of Indiana Pioneers and Contemporary Club. He was honored in 1995 by Governor Evan Bayh with the Distinguished Hoosier Award at his retirement. Terry loved his family, teaching golf and traveling. He and Ruth visited 50 countries and 48 states. He lived a wonderful life. A Visitation for Terry will be held on Saturday, June 24th from 2 – 4 pm at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel. Private interment will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family suggests that, if friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the church at 100 W. 86th St. Indianapolis, IN 46260.
