During his youth, Steven enjoyed working as a Paperboy for the Indianapolis Star. He loved the television show The Three Stooges, listening to James Brown and was very fond of his pet dog, “Mr. Dutch.” Steven, who was affectionately called “Mickey” and “Face”, was educated at Holy Angels Catholic School, and went on to graduate from Cardinal Ritter High School’s first graduating class, the class of 1968.
STEVEN served as a Law Enforcement Officer with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department and later worked for Lilly’s, Roadway Trucking Co., and Hebrew National Foods (Con-Agra Foods).
In 1990, Steven met and later married Linda Dean on November 28, 2001. He united with Oasis of Hope Baptist Church in 2008 and it was at Oasis that he confessed Christ as his Lord and Savior.
STEVEN enjoyed watching baseball and football; he was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and “The Bears.” He loved doing word search puzzles, grilling, watching black and white classic movies and westerns, and reading, especially his IndyStar every morning. Steven loved playing with and celebrating his grandchildren, but his true gifting was providing care and entertainment for senior citizens. He would visit his late mother-in-law at her apartment and later at American Village nursing home. Often times, you couldn’t tell who he was visiting or who he was having lunch with as he worked the dining room. He brought many smiles and laughter to so many who were downcast, lonely, and discouraged. The staff loved him so much they wanted him to apply for employment. Those who knew Steven knew he often talked about world news and sports. He had an enthusiastic sense of humor as there was never a dull moment while in his company. He never met a stranger.
STEVEN departed this life on Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. with his wife at his side. His parents, siblings Richard, Joseph, and Veronica and son, Steven Michael Patton, Jr., preceded him in death.
Steven leaves to cherish his memories, his wife, Linda Dean-Patton; three daughters, Felecia (Gerald) Patton-Pate, Tammi (Corey) Jackson of Forney, TX, and Kim (Darryl) Williams; one brother, Vincent (Shirley) Patton of GA, and eight sisters, Regina Carter, Corina Thompson, Betty Jean “B.J.” Patton, Katherine Toler, Paula Rhodes, LaDonna Patton, MaDonna Rhodes, and Brenda (Renell) Hutson; nine grandchildren; one great grandson and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other relatives, a host of friends, and his YMCA friends.
A visitation for Steven will be held Friday, September 8, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.crownhill.org for the Patton family.
