Sonja Mae Deiter

Sonja Mae Deiter, age 82, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Saturday, December 10, 2022. She was born April 22, 1940 in Indianapolis to the late Robert and Thelma (Gordon) Wuensch. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Charles Joseph Deiter and her two brothers, Ronald Wuensch and Dennis Wuensch. Sonja was a proud graduate of St. Agnes Academy and Marian University. She began her career as an elementary school teacher after graduating from Marian with a Bachelor's of Education degree. Sonja spent much of her education career teaching at Our Lady of Lourdes school on the eastside of Indianapolis, before deciding to stay home to care for her ever growing family. Although she had 10 children of her own, Sonja was a mother figure to countless neighborhood children over the years, too numerous to name, who were always welcomed at her house or yard, with a warm smile, kindness and hospitality. Sonja was a long time member of St. Joan of Arc Parish and was devoted to praying the rosary. She enjoyed spending time reading and solving crossword puzzles. She loved lighthouses and everything that went along with them, but above all else she loved her family and her Lord. Sonja is survived by her children, Anne Culpepper (Warren), Teresa Florczak, John Deiter, Robert "Bob" Deiter, Marie Gagne (Wen), Patrick Deiter (Lorie), Philip Deiter (Jodie), Matthew Deiter, Elizabeth Andrachik (Keith), and Christopher Deiter (Nizeet); 21 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and her sister, Michelle Wuensch. Visitation for Sonja will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E 71st St, Indianapolis, Indiana 46220. Her Mass of Christian Burial will occur Saturday, December 17, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St Joan of Arc, 4217 Central Ave, Indianapolis, Indiana 46205 with burial to follow in Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
