April 22, 1953, in Dayton, Ohio, to his beloved parents, Lucille Leonard (Lett) and L.Z.
Rodney was preceded in death by his devoted mother, Lucille Leonard, and his brothers, Gary Leonard and Carl Leonard Jr. He leaves behind a family and community who will forever treasure his
memory: his son, James Gaddis; his grandchildren, James Gaddis Jr., Jasmine Gaddis, Jessica Gaddis, Jordan Gaddis, Jayshaun Gaddis, Jajuan Gaddis, Jaquel Gaddis, and Kymora Gaddis; his sister, Sheila
Leonard; his brothers, Mory Leonard, Tracy Leonard, and Brian Leonard; and his special companion, Karen Nowell, along with her family: Kendra Nowell, Jathan Spaulding, and Kathy Lee.
Rodney’s passion for learning was evident in his academic achievements. He earned a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree from Kent State University and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree from Central State University, as well as completing studies at Indiana University Kokomo and Hiram College. He was a NEST instructor, a licensed guidance counselor, and an educator at Shortridge High School after retirement. Rodney’s education paved the way for a remarkable career in counseling and education. Rodney was also a dedicated coach, mentoring/coaching students in football, girls’ and boys’
basketball, track, wrestling, baseball, and soccer.
In his professional life, Rodney was deeply committed to shaping the lives of countless students. Whether in the classroom or on the field, his dedication, wisdom, and kindness left an indelible mark. To his
colleagues and students, Rodney was not just an educator but a guiding light whose influence extended far beyond academics. Rodney Lett will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his family, his students, and his community. His legacy of Love, mentorship, lifelong learning and joy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him
