Col. Richard Marion Rivard, D.D.S., 86 of Martinsville, IN and formerly of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away October 10, 2020 after a brief illness. Rick was born in Baseline, Michigan the son of the late Cecil John and Ramona Antonia (Pena) Rivard. He graduated from the University of Detroit Mercy with a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree and practiced for 42 years retiring in 2001. He also did Post Graduate work at the University of Alabama. He was a member of Psi Omega at University of Detroit Mercy. Rick served as a Lt. in the US Navy Medical Corp. and retired from the US Army Reserves with the rank of Colonel. He was a member of the Michigan Dental Society and the American Dental Association, Past President of the Pennfield, Michigan Lions Club and a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Martinsville, Indiana.
Rick is survived by his wife, Martha (Brown) Rivard; children, Dr. John Rivard and his wife Julie, Gerald Rivard and his wife Julie, Richard R. Rivard, K. Allyn Rankin and his wife Paula and Kara J. Austin and her husband Eric; grandchildren, Charlotte, Nicolas, Elizabeth, Sophia Grace, Mary, Alex, Cassie, Chloe and Garrett; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Maverick and Archer; his brother Edward Rivard also survives.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 3496 E. Morgan St., Martinsville, Indiana. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon until 3:00 p.m., on Saturday at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 East Stop 11 Road, Indianapolis, Indiana. Military Rites will be held at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church following the service. Memorial contributions in Rick's memory may be made to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church or to The Rivard Foundation, 2104 Copley Ave., Ann Arbor, MI 48104.
