Obituario de Phyllis "Sue" Jean Shepherd
Phyllis J ("Sue") Shepherd, aged 90, died peacefully at home in Indianapolis on January 25, 2021. She was born on June 8, 1930, in Elwood, Indiana, the daughter of John and Minnie Lee ("Mickey") Parry. Sue was extraordinarily bright and highly accomplished throughout her life. She graduated Valedictorian of the 1948 class of Anderson High School, and was simultaneously awarded the J.C. Black Award by her fellow Seniors for "Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership". She attended Indiana University in 1948/49, earning the Women's Residence Halls Scholarship Award, and was inducted into the I.U. chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Despite strenuous efforts by university administrators to keep her at I.U., Sue left the university after one year to marry the love of her life, William Stanley ("Stan") Shepherd (1929-2011), and to start a family. While Stan developed a very successful career in engineering at Chrysler Corporation, Sue concentrated on raising their two young sons, and later working in senior administrative positions at local Sears Roebuck operations. Sue was devoted to her husband, her family, and her church (Northminster Presbyterian and later Second Presbyterian). She was a confident Christian, a smart, tireless, and proud mother, and active grandmother, a delighted great-grandmother, and a thoughtful, fun and steadfast friend to many. She is survived by sons Michael (Linda) of Naples, Florida, and Terry (Judy) of St. Paul, Minnesota; two grandchildren (Jennifer and Ryan), and three great-grandchildren (Abigail, Brady, and Callie).
