Mrs. Florine C. "Grandmother" Stapleton

Florine C. "Grandmother" Stapleton passed away on June 14, 2017. A visitation will be held on Friday, June 23, 2017 from 10:00 a.m., at Crown Hill Funeral Home (700 West 38th St, Indianapolis, IN 46208), with services at 12:00p.m. Burial to immediately follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Florine Scott Stapleton the daughter of the late Samuel and Lennie Cowherd, she was born December 4, 1925 in Indianapolis, IN. She was the fifth child of eight children, four brothers and three sisters. She was the smartest of her siblings – if you didn’t believe it, just ask her, she would tell you so. Florine was affectionately known as grandmother not just to her grandchildren but to all that came in contact with her.

Born to a Baptist Preacher, Florine choose the Catholic religion. She went to St. Bridget’s Catholic Church from 1947 until they close. A Catholic for 70 years and so was her daughter Janet. While at St. Bridget’s she became a member of the Ladies of St. Peter Clavier for several years.

Florine was united in Holy Matrimony to Robert Stapleton, who preceded her in death. Florine mother died at an early age, Florine was only twenty with a child to care for. It wasn’t easy and she did it her way leaving Janet very proud and felt that she had the greatest mother.

Florine worked several jobs in her lifetime that included the; Post Office, Finance Center, The Saturday Evening Post Co, and some cook positions. Florine retired thirty one years ago.

Florine Stapleton departed this life on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the age of 91 years and 6 months while at Westpark Rehabilitation. Preceding her in death were her parents, Samuel and Lennie Scott; her husband, Robert Stapleton; her brothers, Glen, Charles, Kenneth, Ural; her sisters, Anna Mae, Wilma, Florida; grandsons, Tyree Givens; God son, Clarence Bush; God grandchildren; Tamara Edmonds, and Felicia Smith.

Florine leaves to cherish her loving memory, one child, Janet Stapleton-Murphy; twelve grandchildren; thirty great grandchildren; ten great-great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Patricia Scott, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
