John Taylor 81, went home to be with the Lord on March 9th, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He will be dearly missed by Pilar, his wife of 57 years and his daughters, Lisa (Taylor) Hagman, (Larry), Maria (Taylor) Ready, (Michael); grandchildren, Christopher, Stephen, Chase, Claudia, Camden and great granddaughter Austin. His siblings are Lila Pruitt, Don Taylor, Marilyn Tomey, and Louanna Butler. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lelia Geraldine Taylor and his oldest sister, Joy Ahlfeldt.
John was born in Linton, Indiana on July 3, 1935. He graduated from Arsenel Technical High School and received his BS degree in engineering from General Motors Institute/Kettering University in 1957. John enlisted in the US Marines and served for 8 years in the Critical Skills Engineering Program working on military transmissions. John married Pilar Moreira at Roberts Park UMC in Indianapolis on October 31, 1959. He continued to work as an engineer for Allison Transmission for 39 years and retired in 1992. He and Pilar moved to Ft Worth, Texas in 2015 to be close to family.
He was a Heritage member of Roberts Park United Methodist Church where he was also very active, serving in many different areas; teaching Sunday school, going on mission trips, helping to build homes in rural Alabama, and leading the UMYF, just to name a few. John was an avid tennis player, loved golf and the Chicago Cubs. He also loved history and reading. He and Pilar traveled in the U.S. , North and South America and Europe.
John had a keen sense of humor and touched countless lives. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him during his time here on earth.
