Mary E. "Betty" Means

October 31, 1925 - August 27,2022

Betty was born in Holden, WV, her parents were Earle Thorn Swann and Mary Bradford Grimes Swann.

She moved to Indianapolis in 1939.

She graduated from Shortridge High School in 1942. She Graduated from Butler University in 1948 from the Business school, had been in the Triannon Sorority and President of the Student Council.

She married Paul A. Means in 1952, and later had 3 children.

They were founding members of St. Luke's United Methodist Church where she was still a member.

They were members and Past Presidents of the booster board of the Riviera Club.

She was active with her children in Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, Job's Daughters, Little League, and PTO at the schools.

Betty was Past President and 50 year member of PEO Sisterhood chapter Q. She initiated her daughter into chapter Q while she was president. She was a 75 year member of Queen Esther/Oakland chapter Order of the Eastern Star.

She was a member and on the board at the Indianapolis Propylaeum Women's Club. She loved to play bridge, do yarn crafts, read books, and camping on family vacations. Her favorite holiday was Christmas.

Survivors include her Son, Fred Means Sr. (Melanie), Daughter, Margot Wade (Tim); grandsons, Fred Means Jr.(Karen), Bob Means(Miranda), Dan Means(Sarah), Jon Means(Jessica), Jacob Wade, Nathaniel Wade, great grandchildren Ted Means, Benji Means, J.J. Means, Hollianne Means, Braxton Means, and Charlie Means.

Preceded her in death were her parents, Husband Paul Means, Son, Karl Means.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 11-1 PM with a service to follow at 1:00 PM at Leppert Mortuary – Nora Chapel, 740 E. 86th Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46240.

Graveside services will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
