Mary Ann "Bunny" Payne Born in Macomb, Illinois April 23, 1946 Died in Indianapolis, Indiana September 15, 2024 Mary Ann “Bunny” was born in Macomb, Illinois, the beloved only child of Junior Ames and Ruby Twaddle. As the daughter of an Army aviator, Bunny's childhood was filled with travel, adventure, and the joy of forging lifelong friendships. She nurtured these relationships with love and loyalty, keeping her network of friends close throughout her life. Bunny dedicated her life to the care of others, both professionally and personally. She began her career as a nurse at Methodist Hospital, where she steadily rose through the ranks, taking on roles of increasing responsibility in patient care, research, and quality management. Later, her calling led her to the Roudebush VA Medical Center, where she found deep meaning in serving Veterans. As the Chief of Quality at the VA, Mary Ann ensured the highest standards of care until her retirement in 2012. While her professional accomplishments were significant, it was her roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother that truly defined her. Her heart, always full of warmth and generosity, was most fulfilled by the love she shared with her family, both biological and chosen. In them, she found her greatest joy and purpose, pouring her spirit into their lives with boundless love and devotion. Known for her warmth and hospitality, Bunny loved hosting holiday gatherings, where her home was filled with delicious meals, laughter, and cherished traditions. These occasions were a testament to her talent for bringing people together, creating lasting memories that her family and friends will always treasure. Outside of her family and work, Bunny nurtured her creative spirit through art, music, and travel. She had a passion for discovering new places, both near and far, and filling her life with beauty and culture. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, David Bryant, and her sons Derek Payne (Jennifer), Christopher Bryant (Jill), and Andrew Bryant. Of all her roles in life, being a grandmother brought Mary Ann immense joy. She shared a uniquely close and loving bond with her granddaughter, Julianne Payne, creating countless cherished memories together. Although distance limited her contact with Zachary and Tatum Bryant, she always kept them in her heart and was grateful for the times they spent together. Her love, wisdom, and generous spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew her.
