Marjorie Ann Johnson was born on June 8, 1933 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Alberia Wooley-Jefferson and Mack Jefferson. In her early years, she attended Olivet Missionary Baptist Church. Later, she became a devoted member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church. She also enjoyed visiting and supporting Believers in Christ Tabernacle and Jerusalem Temple Apostolic Church. This strong foundation sustained her throughout her life.
Marjorie, affectionately known by her immediate family as “Ma” or “Muh,” attended Indianapolis Public Schools. After completing her education, she immediately entered the workforce, holding various jobs over the years. Eventually, she found her place at Eli Lilly and Company, where she retired after more than 20 years of dedicated service.
Marjorie was a hardworking, dedicated, and caring woman, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. She consistently supported her family and friends in their endeavors and life events, embodying the epitome of a strong black woman.
Marjorie enjoyed traveling, dining out with family and friends at local restaurants, and most of all, playing bingo and trying her luck at the casinos. Known for her unfiltered honesty, she would tell you exactly what she was thinking, even if it might upset you. Marjorie’s strength was immeasurable, and she will be truly missed.
Marjorie was preceded in death by her parents Alberia Jefferson and Mack Jefferson; brothers: Alexander Jefferson, Raymond Jefferson, and James Jefferson; sisters: Dorothy Turentine, Bernice Clark, Florene Dycus, Henrietta Jefferson, Maxine Jefferson, and Clara Belle Shelton; daughter: Betty Jo Turentine; sons: Richard Lee Turentine, Aubrey Thearties Turentine, Jr., and Karl Lynn Johnson.
Marjorie leaves behind a great legacy and countless memories that will forever be cherished by her loving children: Clifford Turentine, Sr. (Pam) and Donald Turentine; daughter-in-law: Rosemary Turentine; grandchildren: Shalonda Hinton-Price, Nicole Turentine-Collins (Paul), Aubrey Turentine III, Shasta Turentine, Jermaine Turentine, Clifford Turentine, Jr., Laneysha Turentine, LaChyna Turentine, Maurice Turentine (Danielle), Ashley Dodd, Courtney Dodd (Makayla), and Jordan Turentine; 4 step grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
A visitation for Marjorie will be held Friday, October 18, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
