Marcia Norean was the youngest of eight children born to Marcellus Williams and Norean Grimes Williams on July 30, 1930. Her parents and all her siblings – James, Infant Williams, Queen, Lou Bertha, Marcellus Jr., Grace and Josephine preceded her in death.
Marcia attended Indianapolis Public Schools. She received her elementary education at School #26 and her high school education at Crispus Attucks graduating in the Class of 1948. Marcia
participated in high school plays and would proudly inform you that during performances she projected her voice and “spoke to the back row”. One of Marcia’s recitations was the Preamble to the Constitution, part of which she was still able to recite the day before her passing.
Marcia united in holy matrimony in 1949 to Aubrey J. Bacon, Jr. To this union four children were born – Carla June, Mark Aubrey, Eva Marie and Alan Keith.
Marcia professed a hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at 17th Street Baptist Church. Through the years, she was an active member while at Christ Missionary Baptist Church, Grace Memorial Baptist Church, Zion Hope Baptist Church and lastly at Greater Northwest Baptist Church. She participated in their Missionary Ministries and was a participant in the Senior Saints at Greater Northwest. Marcia was a student of the Bible and an avid reader as well. Her faith was strong and sustained her through the hills and valleys of her life.
As a teenager, Marcia’s first job was as a dishwasher at a local restaurant. She had a career change and was employed as a secretary at the U. S Army Finance Center at Fort Benjamin Harrison Indiana during the 1950s and 1960s, and during the 1970s at the Alpha Home. Marcia retired in 1990 after working 15 years for the U. S. Government as a legal secretary for the National Labor Relations Board.
Marcia was fun loving and had a great sense of humor. She enjoyed traveling and dancing. During high school, she and her dance partner often won contests doing the “Jitter Bug”. It was at a dance that she met her husband, Aubrey. They shared 58 years of marriage. She enjoyed playing Bingo and Chinese Checkers, and doing Crossword Puzzles. She especially enjoyed solving the Jumbles in the newspaper and watching Jeopardy on TV. She loved flowers and angels, and collected dolls and bells. Marcia enjoyed attending the adult day program at A Caring Place where she was great at playing Trivia games. She enjoyed family gatherings and was a loving, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother instilling the importance of family values including having Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
Marcia departed this life on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at the age of 94 years. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Waiting to meet Marcia at Heaven’s gate were her husband, Aubrey, two children, Carla and Alan, great-granddaughter Kamille King and step-grandson Anthony Howell, Jr.
Marcia leaves to cherish her memory her son Mark Bacon; daughter Eva Hillman and son-in-law Anthony Howell, Sr.; daughter-in-law Mary Bacon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law Norman and Eunetta Bacon of Naperville, IL; six grandchildren Tamara McElroy (Carlos) of McDonough, GA, Yolanda King of Naperville, IL, Alan Bacon, Jr. (Malina), Kolin Hillman (KeIra), Carlton Hillman and Monica Quarles (Robert) and one step-granddaughter Maurita Howell of NewPort News, VA; fourteen great-grandchildren Khobi Price of Los Angeles, CA, Cylynn and Kharri McElroy of McDonough, GA, Chase, Nia and Aubrey Bacon, Kaleigh and Kaleb Hillman, Kameron and Karter King and Keri Madlock of Naperville, IL., Cordae and Monae Spearman, and Miracle Maelynn Quarles; two step-great-grandsons Nile and Yaffa Howell of Newport, News, VA; and one step-great-great granddaughter Ny’Robi Howell of Newport News, VA; devoted friend Elvia Smith; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A visitation for Marcia will be held Friday, December 13, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Greater Northwest Baptist Church, 3402 W 62nd St, Indianapolis, IN 46268, followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 AM.
