We are leaves of one branch, the drops of one sea and flowers of one garden. On March 2, 1937, a new leaf graced the Taylor branch. Louise Hiser was born to the late Lena and David Taylor in Denmark, Tennessee. She was the fourth eldest of twelve children. She relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1954 where she resided until her transition. She accepted Christ at an early age at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Denmark, Tennessee.
She received her early education in Tennessee in the Madison County school system. After relocating to Indianapolis, she worked various jobs before starting her career in the St. Vincent Health Systems. She was admired and respected by physicians, nurses, and hospital leadership. She took pleasure in caring for patients, often praying for them during their stay. She retired after twenty-eight years of service.
Louise attended Beulah Baptist Church, under the spiritual leadership of Reverend R. F. Gregory, where she met Leonard Hiser. They were married in 1972. After Leonard accepted his call to pastor in 1993, Pastor Leonard and Louise started their pastoral ministry at First Baptist Church of Bridgeport. She was very instrumental in Pastor Hiser’s ministry, serving as a head usher, president of the hospitality ministry and engaged in many other ministries. She also loved gospel music, specifically quartet singing.
She and Pastor Hiser had a loving and fun relationship. They often dressed alike in color-coordinating attire and were a joy to be around. Pastor Hiser displayed his love for Louise openly. He often shopped for her, packed her items for travel and always ensured she never had to fuel her car.
Louise was always present when Pastor Hiser ministered and always offered him encouragement during challenging seasons. They were a great example of Ephesians 4:32, which states, "be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you”.
Psalms 133:1 reminds us how good and pleasing it is when families live together as one. Louise loved family. Her greatest gift was the love she extended to all. She was extremely proud to be a grandmother and doted on her family often. She was an amazing cook and baker, and was often found preparing delicious meals for family, church events and even out-of-town family gatherings. She had a green thumb and was one of the first to have an urban garden. She was very proud of her garden and frequently boasted about her vegetables and green plants. She and Pastor Hiser loved family and often traveled to Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, and Missouri to attend family gatherings. While she loved traveling, she had an opposite feeling about flying.
On March 24, 2022, a leaf fell from the tree of life and Louise entered eternal rest to be received into her Savior’s arms. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Pastor Leonard Hiser; parents, Lena and David Taylor; son, Ray Birden; grandchildren, Ivy Gooch, Leonard Hiser, III, DeSean Gooch, and Tyrone Birden; her twin brother, Odell Taylor; brothers, J.T.
