Linda Baker was born on September 9, 1951, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to loving parents Kathryn and Clifford Mitchell. She was the youngest of six children, growing up with her siblings Iline, Irine, William, Steve, and Barbara Jean. As a child, Linda was known for her easy-going, down-to-earth, and fun-loving nature, which endeared her to everyone who met her. Her early years were filled with laughter and joy, creating cherished memories with her family and friends. Linda attended Crispus Attucks High School, where she excelled academically and socially. She graduated in 1969, marking the beginning of her journey into adulthood. Linda had a passion for learning and a strong determination to succeed, which led her to pursue higher education later in life. In 1999, she achieved a significant milestone by earning a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Martin University. This accomplishment was a testament to her resilience and commitment to personal growth. In 1971, Linda embraced motherhood with the birth of her son, Michael Mitchell. Her nurturing spirit and boundless love for her child were evident from the start. Later, Linda met and married Dale Baker, and together they welcomed two beautiful daughters, Monica Baker and Melissa “Missy” Baker-Robinson. Although Linda and Dale eventually divorced, they remained devoted co-parents, ensuring their daughters were always surrounded by love and support. Linda’s professional journey was marked by her dedication to helping others. She found her calling as a respiratory therapist, a career that allowed her to make a profound impact on the lives of her patients. Linda worked at Riley Children’s Hospital, where her compassionate care and expertise were deeply valued. After many years of service, she retired in 2012, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and dedication. Linda had a zest for life that was reflected in her numerous hobbies. She was an avid gardener, finding peace and joy in nurturing her plants. Writing and painting were her creative outlets, allowing her to express herself and capture the beauty of the world around her. Linda also enjoyed cleaning and solving puzzles, activities that brought her a sense of accomplishment and relaxation. For 10 years, Linda was a devoted member of Word of Life before joining Eastern Star Church, where she served for 30 years as a greeter. Her warm smile and welcoming presence made everyone feel at home. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, providing her with strength and guidance through all of life’s challenges. Linda was known for her loving, understanding, and occasionally stubborn nature, always standing firm in her beliefs. Her selflessness and dedication to her family were unparalleled. She was the glue that held her family together, ensuring that everyone felt loved and supported. Linda had a special talent for remembering birthdays and special occasions, keeping a meticulous calendar to ensure that no one was ever forgotten. Her family often remarked that if a book were written about the perfect parent, it would be about her. Linda was their world, their rock, and their center, providing unwavering support and love. Her influence shaped the lives of her children and grandchildren, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Linda is survived by her children, Michael Mitchell, Monica Baker, and Melissa Baker-Robinson; her sister, Barbara Jean Mitchell-James; and her grandchildren, Amanda Horton, Precious Parker, Eric Jr. Stofer, Wesley Holland, Cameron Baker, Michael Jr. Mitchell, Christian Jr. Tillman, Jeremiah Mitchell, and Rian Robinson. She is preceded in death by her parents, Kathryn and Clifford Mitchell; her siblings, Iline Hunter, Irine Mitchell, William Mitchell, and Steve Mitchell; and her grandson, Timothy Baker. Linda departed this life on May 22, 2024. Her legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. A visitation for Linda will be held Sunday, June 2, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a Celebration of Life at 3:00 PM.
