Lida attended Massillon Public School and graduated from Washington High School in 1943. After graduation she immediately began employment at Eaton Corporation as a secretary to a department head and worked there for 13 years. Lida was married to Joseph J. Harrison. They met as friends in the 5th grade and began dating when Joe returned from serving in the US Army in the Pacific Theater in 1946 and were married that year. Daughter Susan was born December 1947 and son Mark was born in March 1956. Joe was employed by Eaton Corporation in Massillon. He transferred to a sales office in Cleveland, Ohio.

Lida worked as a secretary for Fidelity Union Insurance and Bobby Plump when she arrived in Indianapolis in 1966. She continued her insurance career with Bobby Plump and Associates until 1990. Lida was also a lifelong volunteer in her community. While her children were in school, she was involved in PTA and was instrumental in starting the Mom’s Club at Lawrence Central High School and underwrote various athletic events while her son Mark was a member of the basketball and football teams. As a member of OASIS, she tutored 2nd grade students for ten years. She then went on and became a volunteer for the Community Education Program of Lawrence Township. Being interested in Republican activities to help various politicians be elected to office. When President George W. Bush campaigned in Indianapolis, Lida eagerly volunteered her time on the host committee over his eight years in office. With all of Lida’s expertise on organizing, after Joe passed away in 2005, she moved to Whispering Woods in Fishers where she became the “Honorary Mayor”. It was a brand-new neighborhood and she set out to gather all her neighbors and organize luncheons, dinners, card clubs and many social opportunities so her neighbors could all meet each other and establish lifelong friendships. Lida lived life to the fullest for 98 years on this earth. She will be desperately missed by all that knew her and loved her. The entire family cannot thank Deidra Robinson, Lida’s care giver the past 3 years for her unconditional love for Lida and the Harrison family.
