Keith O. Norwalk, 74, of Indianapolis passed away August 15 with his husband, Steve Hamilton, at his side. Keith was born September 10, 1948, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Keith F. and Jean (Barr) Norwalk. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Suzi, and twin brother Kerry.
Keith was a graduate of Butler University and lived his entire adult life in Indianapolis. He was President of Crown Hill Cemetery for 28 years, retiring in 2018. During his tenure there he served as President of the Crown Hill Cemetery Board of Managers and President of Crown Hill Heritage Foundation Board of Directors. He also served on the boards of the Phoenix Theatre, Indianapolis Athletic Club, and University Club.
He was very active in the community and enjoyed attending many local arts organizations events throughout the city. Keith lit up any room he entered and was a friend to many. He was a very passionate runner until later in life and enjoyed traveling with family and friends around the country and to foreign lands.
Keith also enjoyed reading, gardening, and collecting art. He and his husband opened their home as host family to many artists over the years performing for a variety of arts organizations in our city. His kindness and generosity left a positive impact on many. Keith was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in downtown Indianapolis where he proudly served as a Eucharistic minister. He was awarded the honorary title of Sagamore of the Wabash by Indiana Governor Frank O’Bannon in 2003.
Keith is survived by his husband of eight years, Steve Hamilton; his son, KC Norwalk, and daughter-in-law, Amy Norwalk; his daughter, Alyssa Barr Norwalk; and six grandchildren (Izzy, Quinn, Owen, Lucy, Aspen, and Takoda).
Visitation will be Sunday, August 20 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Crown Hill Funeral Home. Funeral mass will be Monday, August 21, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 311 N. New Jersey St., Indianapolis, IN, with viewing beginning at 10 a.m. at the church prior to the mass. Private burial at a later date at Crown Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to The Phoenix Theatre or to any charity of the donor’s choice.
