Katheryn was born on January 21st, 1925 in Parrottsville, Tennessee to Dorsey & Nishie Kropff. She attended nursing school at Saint Mary’s in Knoxville. She worked in several nursing facilities during her tenure as a registered nurse but her calling was working on the Oncology Unit at Saint Vincent’s Hospital on 86th Street in Indianapolis working well into her 70s.
Katheryn is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, loving husband, Giles F. Schmitt, son, John Chandler and best friend Sherry Bartram.
Katheryn is survived by many loving family members. Daughters- Kathy Chandler of Houston, Texas, Theresa (Frank) Kirkman of Thorntown, Indiana and Kathy (Chuck) Pierce of Parrish, Florida. Son – Jeff Chandler, of Hinesville, Georgia. Granddaughters – Ashley (Jeremy) Snoke, Angie (Charlie) Watson, Angel Wetter, Laura Enlow, Lesha Woodworth, Jennifer (Douglas) Owens & Felicia Seferi. Grandsons – Jeffrey (Michelle) Chandler, Johnathan Chandler, John (Davina) Chandler, Jamison Woodworth, Michael (Laura) Kirkman, Jason (Cheryl) Pierce, Tony (Heather) Pierce. As well as several honorary grandchildren she helped raise over her many beautiful years on earth. She is also survived by several great grandchildren, of which were the light of her life. She loved nothing more than seeing the smiling faces of her babies and there was not a heart she left untouched. Special to her in life was her dear friend, Judi Bautista, whom she enjoyed many adventures with during her retirement.
Katheryn was a longtime member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Indianapolis. She also was an avid collector of nutcrackers and could tell you why she loved each of the 300+ nutcrackers she had.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 12th from 2-5 pm at Feeney-Hornak- Shadeland. Catholic Mass to be held at 10 am on Monday at Holy Spirit Church in Indianapolis, December 13th with burial to follow.
