 Obituario de Joyce Anita Cork
Joyce Anita Cork, a native of Indianapolis, Indiana was born on May 2, 1939 to Thomas Joseph Cork, Sr. and Merle Sargent-Cork. She was the second oldest of five children born under this union. JOYCE grew up on the west side of Indianapolis and attended IPS School 42, and is a graduate of Crispus Attucks High School. Shortly after high school she began working at Larue Carter Memorial Hospital where she spent her entire career working as a Psychiatric Attendant and a Qualified Medical Assistant on the children’s unit. She retired after 37 years of dedicated service in 2000, at which time she went to work for a short period of time at Hobby Lobby, her favorite store. JOYCE developed an interest in GOD and professed a love for Christ at a very young age. During her teenage years she joined and was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R.T. Andrews. During her years there she grew, and fell in love with gospel music, especially choirs and quartets. She discovered a choir that she enjoyed while visiting Metropolitan Baptist Church and decided to join both the church and the choir. During her years at Metropolitan she was under the leadership of Rev. Sweat, Rev. L.E. Ervin and Rev. Kevin Long. While serving as a member, not only was she in the choir, but taught Sunday School to the elementary children for over 20 years as her love for children continued. She was a faithful member who enjoyed her gift of service and served on various ministries such as The Pastor’s Aid, The Drama Team, The Golden Girls, and tutored children in an after school program. JOYCE enjoyed many hobbies. At a young age she and her sister enjoyed collecting paper dolls. During her life she learned and enjoyed many hobbies such as music, especially “Sam Cooke”, paper crafting, collecting dolls, baking ,reading and running errands for her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and was a proud member of The Trava-Leers social club, an organization that allowed her to take many exotic vacations. She was also a proud member of the Red Hatters Association for many years. JOYCE leaves to cherish her beautiful memory three daughters, Donna Kimbrough (Stevie), Linda Cork, Teia Allen (Marshall-deceased), and one son, Christopher Cork (Tomika), one sister Phyllis Johnson (Preston deceased) and one brother, Gregory Cork (Tammy), nine grandchildren, John, Latoshia, Lori, Clarence, Alan-Michael, Evan-Michael, Davion, Emonie, and Aryionna, nineteen great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren , a sister in law Sharon, aunts, nephews, cousins, and a host of dear friends. JOYCE was preceded in death by both parents, Thomas and Merle Cork, two brothers Thomas Joseph Cork Jr & Darryl Elvis Cork, one granddaughter Leslie Denise Hunter, and her best-friend of many years, Mrs. Luvenia Davis. JOYCE was given the nickname of Mommy by friends and family everywhere. Her quiet and sweet spirit will be missed by many. Although her life on earth as we know it has ended, in our hearts she will live on forever. As we accept the will of our CREATOR, be encouraged, for we’ll see her again when we all get together. So long MOMMY, we will see you on the other side. A visitation for Joyce will be held Monday, December 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208, followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 PM.
