Joseph E. Thopy

Joseph E. Thopy, 67, of Indianapolis, passed away on June 14, 2021. He was born on August 2, 1953 in Indianapolis to the late Roy and Mary Thopy. Joe graduated from North Central High School in 1971. After high school he served in the United States Army. Joe married Tammy White on November 22, 1980. He graduated from Indiana University with his Bachelor's Degree in 1981.

Joe worked for DFAS for 35 years in numerous Supervisory Accountant positions throughout his tenure. The highlight of his career was working in Germany the last two years before retirement. He retired in 2015 and enjoyed working part time for Enterprise. He had fond memories of working at his family owned Dairy Queen in his youth. Joe loved Indiana sports and was an avid racing fan. Joe had an infectious laugh, smile and personality. He had a great sense of humor and was a joy to be around.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Tammy Thopy; daughters, Amanda (Adam Brashares) Thopy, Emily (Kevin Coppinger) Thopy and Rachel (Clint) Grey; grandchildren, Colette Brashares and Adalynn Grey; and siblings, Connie (Don) Miller, Robert (Linda) Thopy and Barbara (Steve) Kaforke; and many other loved family members and friends. Joe was preceded in passing by his parents, Roy and Mary Thopy; sister, Joan Cuneo; and nephew Doug Miller.

A visitation for Joe will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 from 3:00pm until 6:00pm at Feeney-Hornak Keystone Mortuary, 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220. Final resting place is Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
