John Paul Nelson, age 90 years old, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday, April 28, 2023. John was born November 11, 1932, in Metropolis, IL to the late Willie Rae Rhimes–Nelson and Henry Earl Nelson.
He is also preceded in death by his siblings, David Roosevelt Nelson, Mary Margaret Nelson-Johnson, Fannie Nelson-Nollie, and his former wife Leonia Nelson.
John was a great and loving father who loved the Lord and prayed daily for everyone he met. He made an impact on many lives. John donated to programs that helped people who were afflicted by world disasters, and the homeless in Indianapolis, Indiana. His favorite charity was St. Jude Hospital for Children. John’s hobbies included hunting, fishing, traveling, gardening, and all form of sports. His favorite seasons were spring and fall and he was able to enjoy these seasons in his home on Kerns Lane which afforded him the ability to appreciate nature at its best (ducks, birds, rabbits, birds, chipmunks, and squirrels). John’s favorite pet was the family dog Tuffy.
Left to cherish his memories are his children: Tony L. Nelson, Sandra A. Nelson (Sandy), Paul Nelson (Brooke); grandchildren, Philip Nelson (Louisa) and Bianca Nelson. Great grandchild, Jade Lilly Mae Nelson. Nieces are Wilma Faye Nollie-West, Roberta Moore, Sue Nelson, Robin Johnson (deceased), and Doreen McCullough. Nephews are Greg Nelson, Topper Nelson, Michael W. Johnson, and Erick Johnson.
John Nelson will be laid to rest in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis, Indiana.
