John Douglas Graham III MD, 71, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away at his home October 9, 2024 and was received by his Lord and Savior. Born December 1952 in Grand Forks ND, he was a distinguished Cardiologist, devoted family man, and true servant of his Lord Jesus Christ. He cherished his family above all else in this world dedicating himself to them, leaving behind an incredible legacy of love. His devotion to his true soul mate and wife Lynn, children, grandchildren and siblings was unparalleled. He found his calling as a healer and medical doctor, providing care to his community. His jovial and uplifting demeanor brought joy and laughter to all those he encountered, it could be said, “he never met a stranger.” An avid University of Michigan and Colts football fan, as well as Duke basketball, he often found community and joy through sports. He had a true zest for life, where he enjoyed, travel, fine food and wine, art and social gatherings, and never turning down an opportunity to speak at a gathering. He was a true and faithful follower of Christ, heavily involved in his church community at Second Presbyterian, and through the Indianapolis Great Banquet. Along with his church community he found service through participating in prison ministry as a medical doctor as well as mission trips providing medical care to impoverished nations and people.
JD, as he became known, was born to ‘Doc’ and Mary Graham in North Dakota but soon after was raised in the Indianapolis area along side his three younger siblings. He attended Wabash College ‘74 moving on to Duke University School of Medicine ‘78 and subsequently University of Michigan hospitals for residency and fellowships in internal medicine and cardiology. While at Michigan he met and fell in love with his soul mate Lynn Graham (nee Gundry) thus beginning their love story. JD and Lynn were married and settled in his hometown of Indianapolis where he chose to take up practice with Indiana Heart Physicians at St Francis Hospital as one of three original and founding senior partners. JD practiced medicine as part of the Franciscan family along side his father who worked with internal medicine and emergency medicine groups at St Francis. JD and Lynn began a family with a daughter Erin and son Connor sharing many happy years. He retired from full time practice in 2021, and settled into retirement as a husband, father and grandfather. After a lifetime of love and commitment to his family, he will be dearly missed by his family and countless friends.
John Douglas Graham III is preceded in death by his parents, John Douglas Graham II and Mary Graham as well as his wife’s parents Robert and Beverly Gundry.
