Henry Lee Summerville was born January 19th, 1932, in Bigbee Valley, Mississippi to the Late Willie Jackson Sr. and Mary Evalena Hill Summerville. At an early age he accepted Christ and was baptized in Mississippi. He later moved to Indianapolis, IN on December 20th, 1952, and became a faithful and longtime member of Bethesda Missionary Baptist Church.
Henry had a formal education to the eighth grade, he learned from the school of life. Henry had many skills and worked hard all his life. Henry worked for Indianapolis General Hospital, then went to work for Allison Transmission in 1964, later retiring from Chevy Truck and Bus in 1997. Henry believed in being on time and never missing a day.
On April 28th, 1960, Henry united in marriage to Helen G. Walker, and brought four children into the world, David A. Summerville (Sharon), Dennis M. Summerville (Jymmye), Dawn M. Summerville (Scott Samuels), Diane L. Mitchell (Leonard Sr.).
If you knew Henry, you knew that he loved his family and friends, and he was always willing to help. If you needed a ride to the grocery store, work or to the doctor he was always there along with a great conversation for the ride. You always left him feeling better for having experienced that time spent with him. Henry was an avid sports fanatic always rooting for the home team. He looked forward to seeing the new Colts quarterback. He also looked forward to the first Tuesday card games with his friends. He loved playing cards and his weekly lottery numbers. Henry also loved listening to the Blues. You could randomly drop by his house, and he would be sitting on the back porch listening to one of his favorite tapes reflecting on his youthful days. These things and more made Daddy/Pops the brother, father, uncle and friend we all knew and loved.
