Fred, known by his friends and family as a fearless and family-oriented man, dedicated his life to his loved ones and his community. He was a devoted husband to Martha Arnold for over 50 years and a loving father to their daughter, Deidre Arnold. Fred was a man of principles, who lived his entire life in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Fred's passion for sports led him to become an avid sports fan, with a particular love for golf. He was also a former high school basketball athlete, showcasing his dedication and athleticism. Fred's commitment extended to his faith, as he joined St. Bridget Catholic Church at a young age and later became a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.
In his early years, Fred served in the United States Army from January 1964 to January 1966 before ending his service with the United States Army Reserve in 1969. Following his military service, Fred embarked on a successful career. He was initially employed at Chrysler before being appointed to the Indianapolis Fire Department on October 14, 1970. Fred's dedication and hard work earned him promotions throughout his career, including the ranks of Corporal, Lieutenant, and ultimately Captain. He served at various fire stations, including Fire Station 10, Fire Station 32, and Fire Station 31.
Outside of his military and professional endeavors, Fred enjoyed hobbies such as golfing, traveling, cruising, reading, and passionately following local sports.
Fred attended St. Bridget Catholic School for his primary education and graduated from Scecina Memorial High School. He furthered his education at IUPUI.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 12:00 p.m. The services will be held at Crown Hill Funeral Home and Cemetery, located at 700 West 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana.
Fred Arnold leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and service. He will be dearly missed by his wife, Martha Arnold, his daughter, Deidre Arnold, several cousins and friends and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
