Eleanor Louisa (Ingersoll) Adams, greatly loved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away suddenly on December 23, 2022, in Cincinnati, OH while celebrating the holidays with her family. Eleanor was born on December 29, 1935, in Indianapolis, IN to Francis Almond Ingersoll and Maudie Lee (Brauner). She grew up on the family farm along with her brothers Emmanuell Lee and Clarence Howard Ingersoll.
She graduated from Warren Central High School in 1954, where she was involved in many school activities until she started working to help support the family at 15. Eleanor began her career at Westinghouse Electric Co in 1956 as an order typist where she quickly learned many areas of the company and eventually became Executive Secretary to several of the District Managers. After 18 years she left Westinghouse to focus on her 2 daughters. Then in 1982 she became the Church Secretary for Southminster Presbyterian Church for the next 25 years, retiring in 2007.
Eleanor met Robert (Bob) Adams shortly after his service in the Navy. They were married on August 12, 1967 and settled in Franklin Township in 1974. They spent 54 years together in a house full of love, memories and faith where they raised their daughters, enjoyed their granddaughters and spent their retirement before Bob’s death in 2021.
Eleanor’s life was filled to the brim with service to her family, friends and many interests. But above all, was her love and commitment to her Lord. Throughout her life she enjoyed time spent being a Sunday School teacher, Girl Scout Leader, 4-H Leader, involvement with raising and showing dalmatians, organizing her high school reunions and get-togethers with life-long friends - just to name a few. Always the secretary at heart, she became her family’s historian, diligently researching and documenting multiple past generations. Her Kentuckian roots were ever present in the fact she preferred the outdoors; relishing their 5 acres where she constantly tended to her flower beds, vegetable gardens and bird feeders. As an early founding member of Indian Creek Christian Church, she instilled and led by example a strong faith and trust in God to all those around her, including both her parents, brothers, daughters and granddaughters.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Emmanuell and her husband Robert. She is survived by her brother Clarence Ingersoll, daughters Christina (Angie Schmidt) Adams, Cynthia (George) Cornelius and granddaughters Elizabeth and Christina Cornelius.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM with the Funeral Service to follow at 12:00 PM at Little & Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46237. Burial will take place in Old Oaklandon Cemetery.
