80, of Indianapolis passed away on July 1, 2021 surrounded by his loving family. J R was born April 26, 1941 in Leeco, KY the son of the late Clarence R. and Ila Smith. J R was a member of Ben Davis Christian Church, Laughing Square Dance Club and the UAW. He is retired machinist from Navistar after 30 years.
J R was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Marie Hollon, Maxine Wilkerson,Carl Smith, Myrtle Lou Spencer, Paul Smith, Joe Smith, Jim Smith; former wife, Linda Bishop-Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years: Phyllis Crawford Hobbs, Smith, 2 step children: Sheila (Bill) Marsh, Scott (Angie) Hobbs, 5 grandchildren Aaron (Lupe) Price, Carmen (Justin) Roedi, Brad Hobbs, Ryan(Donna) Hobbs and Andrew Hobbs and 9 great grandchildren Logan Deblieck, Colin and Raegan Woods, Bailey, Blake , Brinley Hobbs, Ana Cedillois, Sophia, Freyja Price; sisters, Frances (Wendell) Brewer and Thelma Bryant; brother, Ken (Gail) Smith; sisters-in-law, Margaret Smith, Athena Smith and Joann Smith; several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service for J R will be held on Friday, July 9th, 1:00 pm at Family Funeral Care with a Memorial Gathering from 11:00 am until time of service.
