 Obituario de Carl Clifford Settles
Carl Clifford Settles, 84, Indianapolis, was born May 7, 1938 in New Palestine, Indiana to James E and Thelma (Stapp) Settles. Carl passed away peacefully on 02/22/23 at 2:00am. Carl was always a numbers guy. He always knew how many people were at family reunions, parties, or other gatherings. He had a hard time remembering people's names but could remember 13 digit part numbers at work, and at which operation they were at. Carl graduated from Greenfield High School in 1957, then joined the U.S. Army where he held a medical certification as corpsman. He also attained a certification of Indiana Marine Boaters from the U.S. Coast Guard. He attended IUPUI's Clowning Class and helped begin a clown ministry. He would often go to the hospital to visit patients to help cheer them up. At church, family reunions and gatherings he would always be surrounded by all the children. He insisted that his wife, Judy, buy him carpenter jeans because they had deep pockets to hold his clown tricks. Carl was a self-taught woodworker, and loved to spend hours in his shop. He enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, and traveling. He and Judy were blessed to travel to Australia, Ecuador, and Nicaragua to visit friends and children they sponsored. They spent winters in Florida until his health started declining. Carl always being a numbers man, spent the last few years enjoying sitting on the front porch in the summer and counting the trucks and cars that passed on Shelbyville road while waving at the neighbors and dog walkers. He retired from Allison Gas Turbine, and was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. Carl was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Kenneth and Marcia Settles, Janett Wallace, son Bruce Settles, daughter Pamela Chambers and granddaughter Natasha Settles. He is survived by his loving wife, Judy, of 32 years, daughter Lisa Domingue, son Bryan (Terri) Settles, stepchildren Paul (Stephenie) and Rebecca Phillips, sisters LaDonna (Paul) Rather, Patti (Michael) Taylor, Barbara Bainter, and Stella Wall, brothers James (Shelia) Settles, Roger (Patty) Settles and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A visitation will take place at Little and Sons Funeral Home, 4901 E. Stop 11 Road Indianapolis IN 46237 on Monday, February 27th from 11am-1pm followed by a service at 1pm. In Lieu of flowers please make donations to Greater Indiana Chapter-Alzheimer's Disease and Dementia, or Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 2015 S Arlington Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46203.
