Barbara Dee Boyd, 86, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on November 28. Barbara was born March 24, 1932 in Indianapolis Indiana to Jessica Irene Marriott Epsteen and Louis George Epsteen. Following graduation from Ladywood School, she married her husband of nearly 50 years, Philip Lane Boyd. Together they raised their children Deborah (Tony) Phelps, Stephanie (Wayne) Speckman, David (Karen) Boyd, Melissa (Michael Crouch) Boyd, and Jeff (Brenda) Boyd. Barbara’s focus throughout her life was her family and her home. Barbara joined Christ the King parish in 1982 where she later started the aftercare program at Christ the King School. She actively served on the school’s PTO and previously the IPS School 55 PTO. Barbara once enjoyed many summers at Haverford Little League where she enthusiastically supported her husband and children, and served the league. Barbara never met a stranger and always showed generosity to those in need. On many occasions she brought strangers into her home to enjoy holiday meals and experience a sense of family. Others at her dinner table often included extended family, her children’s teachers, and the Priests and Sisters she loved. When she learned of a family in need, Barbara would immediately set out to provide for them. Along with her mother and daughters, Barbara spent many hours volunteering at Saint Augustine’s Little Sisters of the Poor. Recently Barbara had a chance to share fond memories of those days and make new ones when she became a resident of the home.
Barbara was preceded in death by her son, Stephen; brother, Richard; parents, Louis and Irene; beloved husband, Philip; nephews, Jon Michael and Ricky; and great grandson, Christopher.
