It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Audrey Douglass, beloved mother, grandmother, and friend, who peacefully departed this life on November 19, 2024. Audrey was born on June 13, in Washington, D.C., and spent her life making lasting memories through love, laughter, and friendship. Audrey’s legacy is one of dedication and warmth. As a devoted mother, she was fiercely protective of her son, Michael Douglass, who tragically preceded her in death. She is survived by her cherished granddaughter, Ashlee Douglass, whom she adored and was a constant source of pride. Audrey's family meant the world to her, and her love for them was boundless. A lifelong lover of music, Audrey found joy in the rhythms of jazz and the melodies of all genres. She often spent her time immersed in the sounds of the greats, with a special fondness for the smooth voice of Mildred Bailey. Audrey’s appreciation for music was as vibrant as her spirit. A favorite song of hers, "I’ll Close My Eyes," echoed her own serene yet resilient nature: "I’ll close my eyes to everything but you, And when I close my eyes, I’ll dream of you." Audrey enjoyed many things, including her trips to the casino where she reveled in the excitement, the companionship of friends, and the thrill of the game. She also had a unique love for watching the Westminster Dog Show and cheering for her favorite dogs, as well as showing unwavering support for her beloved Washington Commanders. Yet, it was her time spent with friends that she cherished most. Audrey’s friends lovingly called her "Ace," a nickname that reflected her playful, fun-loving, and caring nature. A dedicated healthcare professional, Audrey worked as a nurse and an administrative director until her well-earned retirement. She took great pride in caring for others, and her contributions to the healthcare community are remembered with deep respect and gratitude. Audrey was preceded in death by her son, Michael Douglass, and is survived by her granddaughter, Ashlee Douglass; her friends who became family; and numerous other loved ones who will miss her deeply. Audrey’s spirit will continue to live on through the hearts of all who knew her. Honorary pallbearers are Bonner Reed, Brian Parker, and Reginald Parker Jr. A private graveside service will be held on November 22, 2024. Audrey, with a life full of love, music, and joy, will forever be remembered as "Ace"—a shining light in the lives of those who were lucky enough to know her. Rest in peace, Audrey.
