Ann Harrington Wadelton

Ann Harrington Wadelton, a cherished pillar of her community and devoted matriarch, passed away on June 4, 2024, at the age of 94, in Indianapolis. Born on August 19, 1929, in Lafayette, IN to Ellen Cain Harrington and William Harrington. Ann grew up surrounded by love and faith. Ann was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tommy Wadelton, as well as her parents, her brothers Will Harrington and Tim Harrington, and sisters Katie Batz, Alice VanWanzeele, Betty Hendrix, and Louise DiPaola. She is survived by her brother Father Jeremy Harrington OFM, her children Anita Ready (Scott), Mary Moore (Todd), Tom Wadelton (Cindy), Father Chris Wadelton, and Mike Wadelton, as well as her grandchildren Kimberly Moore, Kellie Moore, Tara Bink (Gardiner), Christina Wadelton, Tommy Wadelton, Alex Ready, and Anna Ready, along with three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Ann's life was marked by her unwavering commitment to service and faith. She received the Catholic Charities Spirit of Service award in 1995, a testament to her selflessness and dedication. Ann was an active member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Indianapolis, where she co-founded the archdiocesan Catholic Widowed Organization and served as a former co-chair of the IHM peace and justice commission. Throughout her life, Ann volunteered tirelessly, supporting organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and the Cathedral soup kitchen. She also served on the IHM board of education and the pastoral council. In her professional life, Ann made significant contributions as the food editor of the Indianapolis Star, where she met her husband, Tommy, a features photographer. Later, she served as the Director of Communications for the Indiana Catholic Conference. Ann will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of compassion, service, and faith will continue to inspire generations to come. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 16, 2024, from 2pm-6pm at Feeney Hornak Keystone Mortuary, located at 2126 E. 71st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46220. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary (IHM) on Monday, June 17, 2024, at 10:30am, with visitation an hour before beginning at 9:30am. Ann will be buried at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery following the funeral. A celebration of life meal will follow the services at IHM, where family and friends will gather to celebrate Ann's remarkable life and legacy.
