She moved to Hopkinsville, Kentucky at an early age and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. L. I. Galbreath at Gainesville Baptist Church and professed her life to Christ.
Amanda attended Attucks High School in Hopkinsville where she participated in many school activities including the majorettes. She graduated in 1958.
On May 10, 1958, she was united in holy matrimony to G W Fleming Sr. They shared a special love and you never saw one without the other. They were the perfect couple and enjoyed having family gatherings and barbeques at their home. They were blessed with 3 children: Donna Yvette, Nikota Michelle and G W Jr. G W Jr. preceded her in death.
Her husband G. W. Fleming Sr. also preceded her in death, passing in 2002. Shortly after his death, her grandchildren affectionately began to call her “G-Baby” which she loved.
Amanda was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend and everyone she touched felt her love. She was kind, caring and had a heart of gold. She loved to cook, and you knew when she had a good meal going with cornbread and mashed potatoes always on the menu.
Amanda and her family relocated to Indianapolis, Indiana in 1961. She joined Ebenezer Baptist Church and the rest of the family seemed to follow her lead. She was a faithful member for over 20 years during which she served on the Usher Board religiously. She was a strong leader, earning the honor of President of the Usher Board and was a Pastor’s aide. She joined Phillips Temple CME Church in 1998. She wrote in one of her many journals that “my paster is Rev. Oliver Dewayne Walker. Thank you, Lord for leading me to this place, and help me to be a servant to your people.” She served on the Stewardess board and loved working in the clothing ministry.
She was employed at Von Duprin manufacturing for 34 years. She loved her job and made many friends who she continued to stay in contact with after retiring in 2007. She and her friends would have monthly breakfast get-togethers, enjoyed attending Beef and Boards and went on bus trips.
Amanda Fleming departed her life on Saturday, November 27th, 2021 at 4:30am at the age of 80 years, 7 months, and 19 days
