Allen Earl Greene, age 89, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Friday March 1, 2019. Allen was born December 17, 1929 in New Orleans, LA to Georgia Greene-Ross and Allen Greene. Allen was known for being a great cook and it could be said when you were around him you never had to travel for great food. Allen was once the owner of a bar in the French Quarter in New Orleans and was a great bartender known not only for his drinks but also for his insights about life to those who needed it. Allen was the Director of the State of Indiana Food Stamp Division for many years touting the benefits of the programs offered to all Hoosiers who needed assistance across the state. Allen was also chosen and Appointed by Governor Robert D. Orr, to the Indiana task force on migrant affairs to assist all those involved in open discussion and treatment of migrants. All of those who knew of Allen knew of his compassion and kind hearted character. In his free time he would enjoy sports as his favorite teams were the Pacers, Colts, and LSU. Allen was always known for his extensive knowledge of African American history, his love of philosophy, his belief in being self sufficient, and his strong will. Allen was strong in so many characteristics and was many things in life. Allen was a loving husband, a pillar of strength, an ear for those needing guidance, a kind heart, and a great man. Allen is survived by his wife, Charlotte Greene; daughter J. Abigail Greene-Fatnassi; and son Ronald E. Greene; sister Lois Fisher; grandson Ronald E. Greene Jr. Mr. Greene is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Allen was preceded in death by; father Allen Greene and mother Georgia Greene-Ross. A committal service for Allen will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Crown Hill Funeral Home & Cemetery, 700 W. 38th St., Indianapolis, Indiana 46208. A cremation will occur.
