Susan Diane (Kemp) Helton was born in Independence, MO on February 23, 1956 to Louis Martin Kemp and Betty May (Martin) Kemp. She was born weighing 2lbs. 10.5 ounces with a congenital dislocation of the right hip/knee. The doctors told her parents that if she lived, she would never walk. God had a different plan. Susan received Shriner sponsorship to Shriner’s Crippled Children’s Hospital, located in St. Louis, MO until she was age 15. This affected her view on people and life as a blessing from God. She was born a city girl but learned to love the country after moving to a farm outside of Cole Camp, MO in 1966. She made Christ her personal Savior at age 16 while attending Englewood Assembly of God Youth Camp in OK. She graduated from Benton County R-1 High School. She started college that summer at CMSU in Warrensburg, MO. Her major was Art Education with a minor in Home Economics receiving her BSE degree in 1983. She taught art in Bevier, MO and the KCMO School District. She also was a case worker for the State of Missouri for a number of years.
In her married life, she lived in Germany and various Missouri cities before settling in Blue Springs, MO. She was blessed in 1990 with her adopted son Zachary. Zachary has always been the sunshine of her life. Susan was a proud member or Tri-City Baptist Church.
Susan went to her heavenly reward on April 6, 2024. She is preceded in death by her fraternal grandparents, Louie and Marcelete Kemp; her maternal grandparents, Claude and Blanche Martin; her parents, Louis and Betty Kemp. She is survived by her son, Zachary Brzuchalski of Columbia, MO, and two brothers, Garry (Sue) Kemp of Lee’s Summit, MO and Kenneth (Shirley) Kemp of Blue Springs, MO, her aunt Velma Kemp and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
